Fire Extinguisher Cabinets

What are Fire Extinguisher Cabinets?

Fire Extinguisher Cabinets are used throughout commercial buildings and provide easy access to fire extinguishers, while protecting them from tampering, damage or theft. Fire extinguisher cabinets must be installed so that the extinguishers are easy to see, to reach, and have the label facing out. Ideal locations include hallways, in meeting rooms, near exit doors, and other common areas.

According to NFPA standards, fire extinguishers stored inside cabinets must be marked conspicuously with clear signage indicating where fire extinguishers are located throughout the building. OSHA mounting requirements indicate that fire extinguishers be readily accessible without subjecting personnel to possible injury. Extinguishers must be mounted on brackets or in fire extinguisher cabinets with handles between 3.5 and 5 feet above the floor.

Fire extinguisher cabinets can be locked with a key, but the plastic or glass front can be easily and safely broken with a hammer or breaker bar typically supplied with the cabinet.

Benefits of Installing Fire Extinguisher Cabinets

Convenient and Accessible: Fire Extinguisher Cabinets keep your extinguishers safe and accessible, while preserving the visual appearance of high-traffic areas.

Reduces Damage and Tampering: Since most fire extinguishers are lockable, this discourages theft and vandalism; although the surface glass is breakable, extinguishers are less likely to be tampered with or stolen. They’re also less likely to be unintentionally knocked off the wall by passers-by which could damage the extinguisher and cause injury due to the weight of the extinguisher. the wall if bumped
